Common weathering steel specifications used in structural fabrication include ASTM A242, A588, A606 and A847. Specifications common to bridge fabrication include ASTM A709 and AASHTO M270. Several manufacturers also use trade names to indicate their unique patented formulations of weathering steel, such as U.S. Steel’s COR-TEN®.

Weathering steel, is atmospheric corrosion resistance steel, also known by corten steel. It is the material that between normal carbon steel and stainless steel and with low alloy content. So corten steel is the carbon steel that added with copper (low Cu), Chrome (low Cr) elements, these elements exist to bring anti-corrosion performances.
This grade is designed for projects requiring atmospheric corrosion resistance. Its advantage over A572 50 is its weathering ability. When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this steel plate can be utilized in its bare condition (unpainted). We stock this material as A588 Gr A & B in plate and 606 in sheet.
